General Information

Our team came together because of what is set out in Chapter 5 of the CervicalCheck Tribunal Act 2019 (the Act). The Act provides for the restoration of trust process. This chapter was included in the Act because of recommendations made by Dr. Gabriel Scally in the Scoping Inquiry into the CervicalCheck screening programme and in Mr. Justice Meenan’s report on an Alternative System for Dealing with Claims Arising from CervicalCheck. You can read more about these recommendations on our “How we got here” page.

The Act says that an independent Facilitator will be appointed by the Minister for Health, and that the Facilitator will recruit a panel of Moderators. You can read more about Our Facilitator and Our Moderators by clicking the links to those pages.

Before implementing what the Act says directly, the Facilitator and Moderators have worked with the groups and organisations who may be affected by what the Act says. You can read more about that process here.

It is important to know that the Facilitator and the Moderators are independent in the performance of their functions. This means that they are not acting on behalf of, or speaking for, any government department or agency.

You can find more information about the Act here.
